DeLauro Hosts Event to Raise Awareness of Domestic Child Trafficking
WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) hosted anevent today to raise awareness of domestic child trafficking. Attendees heardfrom advocates from the Human Rights Projects for Girls and Rights4Girls, aswell as former Representative Susan Molinari. Representatives Carolyn Maloney(D-NY) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) co-hosted the event with DeLauro.Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was a featured speaker. Members of Congress inattendance signed the "Our Daughters are Not for Sale" proclamation (picturedbelow).
"All across America women, teenagers and even children arebeing forced into prostitution and other forms of sexual exploitation.According to the Polaris Project, human trafficking is the fastest-growingcriminal enterprise across the globe. In America alone, an estimated 293,000children are at risk of commercial sexual exploitation. I am proud legislatorsin Connecticut have sent a bill to Governor Malloy strengthening laws againsthuman trafficking. I look forward to seeing him sign it. We must start workingtowards concrete and meaningful action against domestic sex trafficking."
