DeLauro on Japanese Disasters, and Efforts

Washington, DC— Congresswoman RosaDeLauro (CT-3) issued the following statement today in response to themultiple disasters in Japan.

"My thoughts and prayers go out to thepeople of Japan and their loved ones as they face the devastation fromlast Friday's earthquake, the resulting tsunami, and fight to avoid anuclear disaster. These shocking events are still unfolding, but it ismy hope that the worst is over and further tragedy can be averted. Iurge Third District residents to contact my office, or the agencieslisted below, should they be in need of assistance."

For residents of the Third Districtcurrently in Japan and in need of assistance, the U.S. Embassy andconsulates are the best resource. U.S. citizens requiring emergencyconsular assistance should contact the Department of State atJapanEmergencyUSC@state.gov.

For the family and friends of thoseaffected living here abroad, the U.S. State Department (202-647-4000)can assist for American citizens and the Japanese Embassy in Washington(202-238-6700) can help if you are concerned about a Japanese citizen.
