July 16, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), Chair of the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, and Congresswoman Lowey (NY-17), Chair of the Appropriations Committee, released the following statement highlighting Dr. Fauci's expertise, commitment to a nonpartisan approach to ending the coronavirus pandemic:

"We have known and worked with Dr. Anthony Fauci for many, many years, and he has shown us nothing but the utmost professionalism. His level of expertise in infectious diseases is unrivaled. From his groundbreaking work on HIV/AIDS to his applied research on Ebola, Zika, and H1N1, he is a true leader in the infectious disease space and has been a trusted source for quality, reliable information for the Congress as well as six presidents.

"With Dr. Fauci, it's not just about his expertise. Throughout our service on the Appropriations Committee, Dr. Fauci has always been a phone call away. He was readily available to answer our questions and offer guidance. We are grateful for his reliability. A critical fact about Dr. Fauci, on which we all agree, is his commitment to bipartisanship. Dr. Fauci has served in both Republican and Democratic administrations and that speaks to his expertise and professionalism. He always appeared before Congress after being called by both Democrats and Republicans. His level of commitment to his research or work never changes depending on the president's political party.

"We truly admire and respect his commitment to truth over ideology. Our work with Dr. Fauci has always been focused on issues of biomedical research and public health. During a pandemic, we especially need people in positions of leadership who are as committed to scientific research as Dr. Fauci. In the coming year, his role will be critical for the Congress.

"Knowing firsthand Dr. Fauci's commitment to his work and bipartisanship, his leadership during this pandemic has been vital to our nation's response, and for that, we are deeply grateful."
