DeLauro Meets with Local Small Business Owners

March 15, 2010

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) met with members of the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce today and discussed the economic recession and its impact on their businesses and every day life, the ARRA and HIRE Acts, legislation Congress has passed to help stimulate and grow the economy, and the need for comprehensive health care reform.

The Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1964, includes the Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Derby, Oxford, Seymour, and Shelton areas. With approximately 600 members, the Chamber represents businesses in all sectors, from retail to manufacturing to bio-technology with the purpose of supporting economic growth, development, prosperity, and improving quality of life.

"I commend our small business owners for what they have accomplished and what they contribute to our communities every day. They not only help Connecticut and our citizens, but also serve as a valuable point of contact and source of perspective on the community level," said Congresswoman DeLauro. "We in Congress are working to make sure that they will weather this recession and will be able to afford to provide health insurance coverage to their employees, through tax credits and other means. Small businesses are the driving engine of our economy, and they will be at the forefront of our economic recovery."
