DeLauro Meets With Local Third District Leaders

March 11, 2013

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) held herannual meeting today with Mayors, First Selectmen and Town Managers from acrossthe Third Congressional District. They discussed a variety of challenges facingtheir towns, particularly the economy and storm recovery.

"This meeting is a great opportunity to meet with localleaders, hear about their communities' needs, and to fill them in on what isgoing on in Washington, and how it impacts everyone here in Connecticut. Theselocal leaders show a tremendous amount of dedication to our communities andresidents, and never have an easy job, dealing with everything from budget cutsto 40 inches of snow.

"And unfortunately, we are all facing challenging times, whether in the US Capitol or Town Hall. The deep, harmful, across-the-boardcuts that went into effect March 1 mean a great deal of unnecessary andself-inflicted pain for our local communities. And it comes at a time whentheir budgets were already severely constrained and still reeling from theaftermath of Hurricane Sandy and last month's snowstorm. I am hopeful that wecan still find a bipartisan, balanced agreement that grows our economy andallows our municipalities to fully fund the key programs that help families, children, the elderly and most vulnerable among us.
