DELAURO MEETS WITH SHORELINE SENIORS

November 7, 2011

Listens to concerns, discusses economy, Medicare and Medicaid

New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L.   DeLauro (CT-3) visited the Canoe Brook Senior Center in Branford today   to discuss critical issues facing the country today and their impact on   seniors.

Congresswoman DeLauro was joined by the   Center for Medicare Advocacy's Associate Director Margaret Murphy, and   discussed the importance of creating jobs and getting our economy right,   the proposed cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, and the deficit   Supercommittee's deliberations.

"I believe we should take a balanced   approach to deficit reduction that considers both revenue and spending,   and that there is no better way to fix our deficit than to get the   economy moving again. But as we debate how to move forward, we should   not do anything that would threaten Social Security, Medicare, or   Medicaid – the backbone of our American system, and the ultimate   legislative expression of our nation's shared values.

"If anything, we should be helping our   seniors, as we did with the Affordable Care Act, which closes the   prescription drug donut hole, and saved Connecticut residents more than   $10.5 million in rebates and discounts. But the Republican plan would   turn Medicare into a voucher program, shifting thousands of dollars in   costs every year onto the backs of seniors."
