DeLauro Named “Champion for Children”

WASHINGTON,DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro was named a "Champion for Children" today by theFirst Focus Campaign for Children, a national, bipartisan children's advocacygroup. DeLauro was recognized for her leadership on issues important tochildren during the 112th Congress (2011-2012).

"Investingin our children is really investing in our future," DeLauro said. "Pre-Keducation, Pell Grants, the National School Lunch Program, access to affordablechild care and the Child Tax Credit make a real difference in the lives ofmillions of children and their parents. We should continue to enhance thesekinds of targeted efforts that make a lifetime of difference and provide betteropportunities for children. I want to thank the First Focus Campaign forChildren for this recognition and all the great work they do advocating forchildren across this nation."

DeLaurowas one of only 50 Members of Congress whose extraordinary efforts to protectand improve the future of America's next generation earned recognition as aChampion.

Inselecting Champions the First Focus Campaign for Children noted leaders whointroduced, co-sponsored, and voted for legislation to meet children's needs.In addition, the organization considered Members who demonstrated extraordinaryinitiative by spearheading activities such as sponsoring hearings or garneringthe support of their colleagues to improve the health and well-being ofchildren.
