DELAURO ON NAMING OF MIDDLETOWN’S MAURICE ROSE ARMED FORCES RESERVE CENTER
New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) issued the following statement in advance of Saturday's official naming ceremony for the Maurice Rose Armed Forces Reserve Center in Middletown.
The center is named in honor of Middletown native Maurice Rose, who served in both World War I and World War II, General Rose was killed in action in Germany in 1945, one day after completing the longest one-day advance by any Allied Division during the war. The new, state-of-the-art facility houses an estimated 100 permanent full-time staff and approximately 700 citizen soldiers on a rotating basis, as well as 140 vehicles.
"I am very pleased that Middletown's new Armed Forces Reserve Center is being named in honor of local hero Major General Maurice Rose, who gave his life for his community and for the freedom of our nation. The Maurice Rose Armed Forces Reserve Center in Middletown will ensure that our men and women in uniform can get the training and the resources they need to serve our nation to the best of their ability," said Congresswoman DeLauro. "I look forward to seeing the positive impact of this new facility on the U.S. Army Reserve, the Connecticut Army National Guard and the Middletown community for years to come."
