Delauro on Obey Retirement
Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement today in response to Congressman David Obey's announcement that he will be retiring at the end of his term:
"It is with a heavy heart that I learned of Congressman David Obey's plans to retire at the end of this term. I have had the honor of serving in Congress with David for many years, and he has always been a great leader, statesman, and mentor.
"David is a smart, savvy legislator. He has always sought to make things better for working Americans, and to make Congress a more open and representative place. He has been an agent of change, a workhorse constantly striving to do the right thing for the country and for the people of Wisconsin. Through serving on some of the most influential committees in Congress, David has had an immense impact on issues such as education, health care, foreign policy, and ethics reform, and has truly transformed the country.
"He is incorruptible, and as many know, does not suffer fools—he tells the truth fearlessly, and is a patriot in every sense of the word. I will miss David's commitment, dedication, and integrity, and though soon no longer a colleague, he will always be my friend."
