DeLauro on Passing of Congressman Murtha

New Haven, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement today in response to the passing of Congressman John Murtha:

"Congressman Murtha was a great leader, a tireless champion for veterans and the middle class, and a treasured friend. He was an advocate for our national security, as a decorated veteran himself, and always worked to put our troops and their safety first.

"From his position as Chairman of the Defense Appropriations Committee, his extraordinarily dedication to the well-being of our troops and their families was evident, and his legacy will live on through the changes he helped bring about to make them safer in combat.

"Jack was also concerned with the well-being of Americans waging another kind of battle, and supported critical funding for research on diseases such as cancer, AIDS, and diabetes.

"Congressman Murtha was always a great ally to Connecticut as well, and he will be missed greatly."
