DeLauro, Pelosi Discuss Women’s Economic Agenda with CT Women

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) welcomedHouse of Representatives Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi to North Branford todayfor a discussion on WhenWomen Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families.The two heard from a number of Connecticut women about the challenges they facewith pay; work/family balance; and affordable, quality child care.

"Women and their families face enormous financialpressures," DeLauro said. "For America to succeed, we need policies thatreflect the way families live and work today, with both parents in theworkforce and more single-parent households. When Women Succeed… doesjust that by dealing with pay, work/family balance and access to affordable,quality child care."

"The remarkable women we've heard from today give voiceto the challenges that are all too common for women across Connecticut and ourcountry, but they are blessed to have a tireless champion in Congresswoman RosaDeLauro," said Pelosi. Today's event was held on the factory floor of thePennsylvania Globe Gaslight Company, a woman-owned business with 15 employees.One of the policies highlighted by When Women Succeed…is support forwomen entrepreneurs and small businesses. Joining DeLauro and Pelosi were about200 women from across Connecticut and three guests who shared their personalstories:

· Ivy Delgado discussed how paid leave helped herand her family through a tough time

· Kanesha Crenshaw told the crowd about thecrucial importance of access to child care

· Deborah Bonney spoke about how she was able topursue further career opportunities through job training
