DeLauro Praises Additional LIHEAP Funding
Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement today applauding the award of additional home heating assistance funds to Connecticut residents, bringing the state's total grant this winter to $96 million. The funds, which are part of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), were awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services and will help families across the country keep their homes warm this winter.
"This week, 49 states had snow on the ground—and some areas of Connecticut had more than two feet, accompanied by temperatures in the single digits, to contend with. These additional funds are critical in today's tough economic climate, and will help to ensure that hard-working families are able to keep their heat on for the remainder of the winter. No one should have to choose between buying groceries or keeping their homes warm— this is a matter of values, and I believe the government has a responsibility to make certain our citizens are cared for."
Individuals interested in applying for energy assistance should contact their local/state LIHEAP agency. For more information, go to: www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ocs/liheap/ or www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ocs/liheap/brochure/brochure.html.
