DeLauro Praises ARRA Funding for Reconstruvtion of Quinnipiac Ave from Fulton to Clifton Streets
Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement today praising the announcement of $7.3 million in federal funding as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to reconstruct Quinnipiac Ave from Fulton to Clifton Streets:
"The residents of the Fairhaven and Fairhaven Heights neighborhoods have waited over a decade for today's announcement that we are finally moving forward with reconstruction of Quinnipiac Avenue. These communities have waited far too long for these safety and livability improvements to this very busy thoroughfare. There was no shortage of obstacles that stood in our way as we pursued these critical neighborhood safety improvements, and I would like to thank my colleagues - and more importantly the community leaders - for their hard work, leadership, and sheer doggedness on this project.
"I could not be more pleased that we now stand ready to put the first shovel in the ground— much-needed projects like this are why we passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. It will create jobs, increase our connectivity and productivity, and literally strengthen our nation's foundations while ensuring long-term economic growth. It has been clearly shown that every dollar we invest in transportation infrastructure generates enormous dividends in terms of job creation and economic growth. As the GDP figures that came out recently illustrate, our economy is showing signs of recovery, and now is the time to invest in its future. We owe it to our nation's workers, their families, and the generations to come."
