DeLauro Praises Award for Local Clean-Tech Manufacturing Jobs

January 8, 2010

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today praised the award of a $225,000 tax credit to Acuity Brands, Inc., of Wallingford, CT. The award is part of $2.3 billion Recovery Act Advanced Energy Manufacturing Tax Credits being awarded to 183 projects across the country to encourage and reward the creation of clean energy and manufacturing jobs including solar, wind and efficiency and energy management technologies.

These tax credits are component of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA), and are intended to both strengthen the economy by creating new sources of employment and reducing American dependence on foreign sources of energy. Acuity Brands' innovative and sustainable practices, particularly their energy-saving light sensors, demonstrate the type of clean-energy jobs these awards are designed to encourage.

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro said, "Clean energy manufacturing projects are the jobs of the future—and are essential to rebuilding our economy, both in the immediate future and long-term. I am very proud to see Connecticut recognized for helping to lead the way with companies like Acuity Brands."
