DeLauro Praises Federal Stimulus Awards to Connecticut Department of Tranportation
Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today praised the award of $7,000,000 in federal stimulus funds to Connecticut to upgrade 37 buses from conventional fuel systems to energy- efficient hybrids.
Part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, this Transit Investments for Green Gas and Energy Reduction (TIGGER) grant will enable the Connecticut Department of Transportation to save approximately 25,000 gallons of fuel over the lifetime of each bus, and will drastically reduce emissions.
"I am very pleased with this award, which will enable Connecticut to continue to be a leader in green technologies and innovation. These funds will provide employment opportunities, reduce pollution, and save our state from paying for nearly a million gallons of fuel. This is yet another example of stimulus funds providing benefits to Connecticut in both the immediate-term and the long-term by making an investment in the green infrastructure that will fuel economic growth in our state for years to come."
