DeLauro Praises Funding for Chronic Disease Management Program for Seniors
Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) today praised a Recovery Act award in the amount of $400,000 to the State of Connecticut's Department of Social Services to provide assistance to older adults with chronic diseases.
The award is part of $27 million in grants announced today by Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, and is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The grants will enable 45 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia to offer self- management programs to older Americans living with chronic diseases and to help build and maintain state-wide assistance systems.
Congresswoman DeLauro said, "This is really a win-win situation: by providing access to preventative care and management services, we will help to improve the health of our citizens and lower health care costs. These grants are a great investment in our country's health care infrastructure, and I look forward to seeing the positive results these programs are sure to produce."
