DeLauro Praises Housing Grants for New Haven
Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today praised the award of over $57,000 for the Housing Authority of the City of New Haven.
The funds, allocated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Family Self Sufficiency Program, will enable the local Public Housing Agency to hire a program coordinator. This coordinator will be responsible for linking residents with job training opportunities, placement organizations, and local employers.
Participating residents in this program will sign a contract outlining their training responsibilities and employment objectives —the goal of which is to reach these stated employment objectives within five years. For families that receive welfare assistance, an additional goal of achieving independence from this aid within three years, and remaining for so for a full year before the expiration of the original contract, will be put in place.
Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro said, “This is a great opportunity for the City of New Haven. Now more than ever, finding and maintaining employment is of the utmost importance for struggling families in our state. This program coordinator position will help our most economically vulnerable citizens train for and secure the jobs they desperately need right now. I am very pleased with this announcement, and look forward to seeing the results of this grant begin to work.”
