Delauro Praises Over $1 Million in Brownfield Funds for 3rd District
Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today released the following statement in response to the Environment Protection Agency's announcement that $3.1 million in funds will be distributed to communities throughout Connecticut to clean up abandoned or underused industrial with chemical contamination problems, areas known as brownfields.
Part of more than $16 million in funds being awarded in New England, New Haven, Middletown, and Shelton will receive over $1 million to clean up the Remington Rand Complex, the 10 Wall Street site, the Former Cel-lastik Parcel, and community-wide projects.
"These funds will bring new life to areas throughout our cities that have suffered because of our region's industrial and manufacturing past. Brownfields have had serious environmental and economic consequences, and these funds are essential to improving our communities, bettering our citizens' quality of life, and fostering economic growth. With these sites cleaned up, we will be paving the way for the revitalization of our neighborhoods and providing a pathway for new economic development."
