DeLauro Praises Support for Child Nutrition Act Reauthorization

February 23, 2010

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) praised Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack for his remarks in support of the Child Nutrition Act Reauthorization at a National Press Club luncheon earlier today.

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro said, "We in Congress have an opportunity to make important strides this year with the Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act, and I commend the Administration's commitment to improving the health and nutrition of our nation's children. With First Lady Michelle Obama's leadership on this issue, we finally will begin to see real progress in giving parents the support they need to keep their children healthy, getting our children to be more physically active, and reducing the alarming childhood obesity rates.

"We have taken the first steps, but we must continue to move forward if we are to have an impact of the lives of our children. We must enact meaningful reforms in our child nutrition programs that encourage physical activity and healthier eating habits if we are to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic."
