DeLauro Praises Telecommunications Grants
Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today praised an award of nearly $1.8 million from the Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to Connecticut to increase broadband internet access throughout the country.
This program, which is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will help provide more and better information about broadband to both policymakers and consumers. The Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control will use approximately $1.3 million of these funds to collect data, map broadband internet usage, and $500,000 for planning activities throughout the state.
Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro said, "I'm very pleased with this award, as it will help bring broadband internet access to citizens in Connecticut and across the country. Broadband internet, especially in small towns and rural areas, is about connecting people and communities and giving people access to opportunity and information they would have not otherwise have had. Additionally, investing in broadband infrastructure will create jobs and rebuild our economy, and ensure that America will be highly competitive for generations to come."
