DeLauro Reaction to President's Remarks on Health Care Reform

March 3, 2010

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement today in response to President Obama's remarks urging the passage of health care reform:

"I applaud the President's remarks today on moving forward with health care reform, and especially his sense of urgency. The plan he laid out today encompasses the best of both the Democrats' and Republicans' ideas: protecting patients and consumers, holding insurance companies accountable, and reducing costs for those who have insurance while making coverage more affordable for people currently without it.

"Some people have spent their lives waiting and hoping for health care reform, and now is the time to act. For families across the country who have had to make the impossible choice between paying for health care or to put food on the table, for medicine or heating their homes, for sky-high premiums or their mortgage, the cost of inaction is simply too high. This legislation will provide access to health insurance for more than 31 million Americans, and I look forward to working with my colleagues in both the House and Senate to ensure that we pass the best bill possible."
