DeLauro Release on Senate Failure to Move Forward on Gun Violence Bill

April 17, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) releasedthe following statement today after the Senate failed to pass theToomey-Manchin amendment closing current loopholes in background checks for gunpurchases:

"Outrage and anger are the most appropriate words to describehow I, and millions of Americans, feel after today's Senate vote. The Senate'sinability to move forward on an issue that 90 percent of the country agrees onis shameful. How senators who voted against this proposal can look the familiesfrom Newtown, Aurora, Blacksburg and so many other places across this nation inthe eye and tell them they did the right thing is beyond me."
