DeLauro Releases ‘A Threat to Women’ Report on Trump’s Deregulatory Agenda

March 22, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC (March 22, 2018) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released a Congressional Report on how the Trump Administration's reckless deregulatory agenda is hurting women. The report summarizes the rollback of key rules and policies in the Departments of Health and Human Services, Education, Labor, and Agriculture.

"The Trump Administration's assault on federal agencies is crippling the ability of the government to serve the people. Women across America are disproportionately the victims of President Trump's reckless sledgehammer," said DeLauro. "This Administration is destroying government programs and policies critical to protecting and advancing women's economic security, health care, education and quality of life. President Trump once declared, ‘I'm going to be really good for women.' In reality, the President's Administration poses a threat to all women regardless of their age, race, ethnicity, background, or life experience. As we honor women leaders and reflect on their significant contributions to our society during Women's History Month, we cannot ignore the Trump Administration's efforts to limit their achievements and progress into the future."

Key findings of DeLauro's report include:

  • The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) threatened millions of women and girls' access to family planning services and health care coverage, and decreased nursing home protections for seniors.\
  • The Department of Labor (DOL) dismantled equal pay and anti-sex discrimination initiatives, and removed overtime pay and minimum wage protections for millions of women workers.
  • The Department of Education (ED) rolled back protections for sexual assault survivors, and allowed schools to get away with preying on women students and veterans who want a college education.
  • The Department of Agriculture (USDA) limited women's access to anti-hunger programs.

A two-page summary of the Congressional Report can be found here, and the full report can be found here. DeLauro serves as Ranking Member of the Appropriations Subcommittee responsible for funding the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and a senior Democrat on the Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee.
