Families to see Increase in Paycheck

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) announced that effective today, 1 April 2009, families will see an increase in their paychecks as a result of the Making Work Pay Tax Credit in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The credit provides over 110 million working families—about 95%—the tax relief they need right now, this includes 1.3 million families in Connecticut. As a result of this credit, the average family will receive about $800 extra cash in their paycheck over the next year, an approximately $65 per month increase.

"With rising costs and stagnant wages, families have been hit hard by this recession. With the Making Work Pay Tax Credit, we will put more money in the hands of middle class families, providing immediate tax relief for many who may be struggling to make ends meet," said DeLauro.

The credit will benefit individuals earning under $95,000 per year and 190,000 per year for married couples filing jointly. Over the next two years, the "Making Work Pay" tax credit provides a refundable tax credit of up to $400 for working individuals and $800 for married taxpayers.
