DeLauro: Republican Games are Hurting American Families

May 19, 2010

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement today in reaction to Republicans in the House of Representatives blocking legislation that would create jobs and help the middle class for the second consecutive week:

"Republicans continued to play games today, putting their own political self-interests ahead of those of the American people by voting against a bill that will create jobs and help the middle class. The COMPETES Act would help create jobs in industries that have been hard-hit by the economy, will ensure our country remains a leader in innovation and technology, and reduce our dangerous dependence on foreign oil— and yet, the Republicans voted it down for the second time in two weeks. I urge my Republican colleagues to stop playing political games and to start fighting for the American people, starting with passing this bill."
