DeLauro Responds to FDA Raid of Massachusetts Compounding Center
NEWHAVEN, CT--Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statementtoday responding to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) investigation ofthe New England Compounding Center (NECC). More than 230 illnesses linkedto fungal meningitis or fungal arthritis, including 15 deaths, have beenassociated with contaminated drugs produced by the NECC.
"Conductinga thorough investigation so we can get to the bottom of why a compoundingpharmacy acted as a manufacturer and was able to sell contaminated product inmore than twenty states is imperative. I strongly support the ongoingfederal investigation of the NECC. If the investigation finds anycriminal misdoings, the Department of Justice must act decisively, file chargesand prosecute the company or individuals responsible.
"Aregulatory morass has lead to 15 deaths and hundreds more sickened. The federalgovernment has the responsibility to ensure this failed patchwork ofregulations is corrected. Congress must act to ensure this does nothappen again."
