DeLauro Responds to President's Budget

February 14, 2011

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3), Ranking Member on the Labor, Health, and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee, issued the following statement today in response to President Obama's proposed budget for fiscal year 2012.

"The President's budget stands in stark contrast to the budget cuts proposed by the new Republican majority on Friday, and will make targeted investments in areas that will create jobs and economic growth that allows our country to move forward while reducing waste and unnecessary spending.

"Of course, there are tough choices made that I have deep concerns about, such as the reduction in LIHEAP funding and cuts to Community Development Block Grants, but overall the President's budget will help to strengthen our economy and expand opportunities.

"It is essential that we stand up for middle-class Americans and work to get our economy right while protecting critical services, and that is what I will work for in the days to come."
