DeLauro Slams Trump for Lack of Plan to End Outsourcing

January 31, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC (January 31, 2018) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding President Trump's lack of substantive comments on the issue of outsourcing and the ongoing NAFTA renegotiation during last night's State of the Union address.

"For years, President Trump promised the American people that he would bring back jobs and stop outsourcing by enacting tough trade policies and renegotiating NAFTA. Yet, the outsourcing has continued at a rapid clip, and his State of the Union address was glaringly absent on specifics. Every week that goes by, more American jobs are lost to low-wage countries, including the hundreds of Carrier workers the President pledged to protect that have seen their jobs shipped straight to Mexico. And, despite repeated campaign promises to bring down our enormous trade deficit, the goods trade deficit has only ballooned over the course of the President's term. President Trump needs to step up and be a leader for trade policies that protect workers as he promised he would."
