DELAURO STATEMENT ON 10th ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11

September 12, 2011

Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) issued the following statement in recognition of the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

"September 11th, 2001 is a day that left its mark on all of us – above all those at Ground Zero in New York and at the Pentagon. When the towers fell, they took so many dear to us, and created a stark and tragic imagery that we all still relive.

"We remember September 11th as a day when our national perspective was forever altered, our sense of national unity challenged. But, as this event reminds us, even ten years later, the tragedies also strengthened our sense of community. I am still proud to remember the courageous way Americans came together and responded — from firefighters and policemen, to those who gave blood and donated money.

"Ten years after the tragedy that defines this chapter in our history, let us continue to remember and honor the fallen of 9/11 and their families, and the servicemen and servicewomen defending us overseas. The world as we knew it changed on that terrible day, and my thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those lost in this immense tragedy. Connecticut, being so close to Manhattan, bore a particularly heavy burden as many victims that day had ties to our state. But let us draw strength from the knowledge that, in the face of such evil, we are still a nation and a community united."
