DeLauro Statement on Announced Ash Wood Quarantine
Toured Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station on Monday
NEW HAVEN, CT—Connecticut Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro issued the following statement today on the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station’s announcement of a quarantine on all ash wood products from leaving New Haven County.
“This quarantine is the right thing to do for Connecticut residents and I applaud the State for taking swift action to limit the emerald ash borer’s damage,” DeLauro said. “The quarantine announced tonight will help prevent the spread of the emerald ash borer to other parts of Connecticut. I will continue to be in touch with state and federal officials as the process of determining the extent of infestation moves forward.
“For the past several years, parts of America—from the Great Lakes, to Pennsylvania, New York and Virginia—have been struggling with this infestation. Unfortunately, these small, green, invasive beetles have now come to Connecticut. We must do everything we can to keep our ash trees from dying, as 50 million of them already have.”
