DeLauro Statement on Bill to End FAA Furloughs

April 26, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) releasedthe following statement today calling on Congress to fix the deeplyharmful, across-the-board budget cuts known as sequestration.

"Passage of the FAA ‘fix' helps the air travelers who havewasted hours waiting for delayed flights this week and air traffic controllerswho want to get back to work. Unfortunately, it does nothing to help the kidskicked off of Head Start, workers who need critical job training, the publichealth researchers who will have to delay their work into life-threateningdiseases, the educators facing layoffs and school children facing biggerclasses, or the seniors who will lose access to Meals on Wheels. This week'sdelays were just one repercussion of sequestration, but there are millions morewho are suffering. Congress needs to pass a responsible budget that endssequestration and its impact on everyone, not just a select few."
