DeLauro Statement on Bipartisan Package to Fund the Government
WASHINGTON, DC (February 14, 2019) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement after voting to pass the seven outstanding appropriations bills for fiscal year 2019.
“Tonight, Congress voted to avoid another costly government shutdown, which would have inflicted more pain on working families who are living paycheck to paycheck. Our country cannot afford to govern from crisis to crisis. While this bill is not perfect, I voted for it because it increases funding for critical programs like infrastructure investments in Connecticut, affordable housing, the Census, economic development programs for small businesses, and food safety efforts. It also funds smart, effective border security measures like construction and technology at our ports of entry and opioid detection equipment.”
“Democrats also held firm against building President Trump’s border wall. Moving forward, I will continue to oppose President Trump’s effort to declare a national emergency where there is none. This is a manufactured crisis made up by the President, and no amount of hate or fear-mongering will change that.”
