DeLauro Statement on CDC Guidance for K-12 Schools on Returning to In-Person Instruction
WASHINGTON – House Appropriations Committee Chair and Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee Chair Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement on school reopening guidance released today by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
“Today’s CDC guidance is an important step to returning to safe in-person learning. However, it is obvious that this guidance must be met with strong federal support so that all schools, not just those who can afford to do so, can follow this road map.
“Republicans and the Trump Administration could have agreed to provide schools the resources they needed months ago when the House Democrats passed multiple relief packages. Despite being months behind in recovery, the American Rescue Plan will help schools make up for lost time in the classroom. The $130 billion investment provided in this coronavirus rescue plan to help K-12 schools safely reopen will bring us closer to getting our children back to learning together.
“As the Chair of the Appropriations Committee, I look forward to working with the CDC and our state and local governments to ensure our schools have what they need to help our students recover from the pandemic and build brighter futures for all students.”
