DeLauro Statement on Constituents Stranded Due to Trump’s Executive Order
WASHINGTON, DC (February 1, 2017) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding several constituents and their families who have become stranded around the world after President Trump signed an executive order targeting refugees and citizens of seven countries in the Middle East.
"President Trump's misguided executive order on refugees continues to have devastating effects for families. Connecticut has seen firsthand the suffering this outrageous and shameful change in policy is creating. Over the last week, my office has been working to assist a man in Milford who is fighting to be reunited with his Syrian wife and children stuck in Ukraine, and a man in New Haven who is fighting to be reunited with his Iranian wife stuck in Austria.
"The United States must have a commonsense immigration policy that keeps families together rather than breaking them up, and I will continue to fight to overturn President Trump's actions. My office is ready to assist constituents who are affected by this executive order, and I encourage anyone who needs assistance to contact my staff at (203) 562-3718."
DeLauro has repeatedly called on the Trump Administration to reverse course and end his executive orders targeting immigrants and refugees. Over the last week, DeLauro and her staff have worked diligently to ensure that families can remain together on American soil. To address these situations, her office has contacted the National Visa Center, the United States Embassy in Amman, Jordan, the Customs and Border Patrol offices in Washington, DC and New York, and the U.S. Department State.
