DeLauro Statement on DOJ Refusal to Defend ACA in Court
WASHINGTON, DC (June 8, 2018) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the Trump administration’s refusal to defend key parts of the Affordable Care Act in federal court.
“The Trump administration’s latest attack on the Affordable Care Act puts every single American with a pre-existing condition at risk of losing their healthcare coverage. We are talking about children born with life-threatening conditions, individuals living with a chronic disease, and many Americans who were able to retire before they were Medicare-eligible because of the ACA. It is virtually impossible to find a single American who can claim a full bill of health—and even if you do not have a pre-existing condition, we are all just one accident or illness away.”
“Instead of carrying out an ideological agenda against families’ health care, President Trump should work with Democrats, who are working every day to make healthcare more affordable for all. That is why I strongly support CT Attorney General Jepsen’s efforts to defend the Affordable Care Act in this case, and stand ready to assist in any way I can.”
