DeLAURO STATEMENT ON FDA BPA DECISION
New Haven, CT— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3), Ranking Member on the Labor, Health, and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee, released the following statement today in response to the Food and Drug Administration's decision to continue studying bisphenol-A, commonly known as BPA, which is primarily used in polycarbonate plastics.
"The agency issued a report more than two years ago noting that there is concern about the effect of BPA on infants and children. I urge the FDA to protect the public from this chemical that may affect their health. Continued delays only place the public health at risk. "
Representative DeLauro is a cosponsor of the bill that would deem food adulterated if its container is made with BPA or can release BPA into food.
