DeLauro Statement on Final Affordable Care Act Contraception Rule

July 10, 2015

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today on the Obama Administration’s final rule regarding contraception coverage under the Affordable Care Act. DeLauro is the senior Democrat on the subcommittee responsible for funding the Department of Health and Human Services.

“Today’s announcement restores access to contraception for many women, but unfortunately some will still be denied access to coverage because of the Hobby Lobby decision. Congress needs to pass the Corporate Interference Act to ensure that more women have access to this important coverage.

“Ninety-nine percent of sexually active women will use birth control at least once in their lifetime. Ensuring that women have access to birth control is critical for ensuring generations of American women will lead healthier, more productive lives. And thanks to the Affordable Care Act women’s health care is finally on equal footing with men’s. I look forward to continuing to work with Secretary Burwell to ensure women have the crucial preventive services they need.”
