DeLauro Statement on GOP’s 38th Attempt to Obstruct Health Care Reform
Calls On Her Colleagues to Get Back to Work forAmerican People
WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) releasedthe following statement today on House Republicans' 38th attempt toundermine or repeal the Affordable Care Act. The attack on familiesnationwide is opposed by the American Heart Association, American DiabetesAssociation, Health Care for America Now, the Easter Seals and Families USA, amongother organizations.
"This is the thirty-eighth time that this Majority has votedto gut or repeal the Affordable Care Act. American families want to seeleadership from this institution. They want us to work on creating jobs andspurring economic growth. But we have yet to see any jobs bills from theMajority this session.
"Instead, we are again watching this Majority try to preventthe much-needed and long-overdue health reforms signed into law in 2010. If these bills were to become law, the 129 million Americans with pre-existingconditions who will be covered under the ACA will find it that much harder toobtain quality, affordable coverage. And, without an individual mandate ineffect, families would see their premiums rise because a smaller, sicker riskpool will drive up insurance costs.
"The Majority knows this. That is why these bills are reallyjust an underhanded attempt to undermine these comprehensive health reforms.Congress should reject these political games and start focusing on the businessof the American people: creating jobs and getting our economy on solidfooting."
