DeLauro Statement on Hostage Release and Humanitarian Pause in Gaza
Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released a statement:
“I am relieved that dozens of hostages will be released and returning to their homes. I also welcome a humanitarian pause in Gaza to allow humanitarian partners to distribute urgently needed supplies – like water, food, medicine, and shelter – into the region so innocent civilians caught in the middle of the conflict get the aid they need to weather this crisis. In the coming weeks, I will continue to push for the safe release of all hostages held by Hamas and will work to get vital humanitarian assistance into Gaza as soon as possible.
“I believe that we must create the conditions for lasting peace and a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinian people. That means we must end Hamas’s ongoing terror in the region. Everyone will be hurt if Hamas remains in control of Gaza. However, this war is against Hamas. The Palestinian people are not Hamas, and they have lost communities, neighborhoods, and loved ones because of this conflict and Hamas’s atrocities.
“Finally, I am once again calling on Congress to move quickly and on a bipartisan basis to pass a supplemental funding package that addresses both national security and humanitarian needs. I have called on appropriations leadership to meet so that we can get to work. We must get this done.”
