DeLauro Statement on HUD’S Approval of CT’s Sandy Recovery Plan

Applauds Step Forward for State's Recovery, NotesAction Still Needed

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) releasedthe following statement today after the Department of Housing and UrbanDevelopment announced their approval of Connecticut's plan for $71,820,000million in Hurricane Sandy recovery. The State of Connecticut will now sendapplications for assistance to Sandy victims and then evaluate completedapplications to determine what state residents and business owners areeligible.

"This is a positive step forward for people who are stillstruggling to put their lives back together in the aftermath of HurricaneSandy. I urge Governor Malloy to implement the plan as quickly as possible.Sandy's victims have waited nearly a year for relief and we must not delay anyfurther. I fought to ensure Connecticut received these funds and will continueto be closely involved in the process so that the rest of the disaster reliefmoney is made available to all who need it."

As directed by Congress, in the emergency relief packagesigned into law earlier this year, 80 percent of the money must be spent inhardest hit New Haven and Fairfield counties. The funds were made availableunder the first round of Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recoveryallocations.
