DeLauro Statement on Latest Senate Republicans’ Coronavirus Bill

March 22, 2020

NEW HAVEN, CT(March 22, 2020) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement on Senate Republicans' latest coronavirus bill.

"The Senate Republicans' latest proposal does far too little for working people and families. It is a muted response to a deadly and open-ended crisis. Congress must do better. Millions of families were already living paycheck-to-paycheck before the coronavirus pandemic reached our shores. We cannot let them fall through the cracks—be it now or in the future. I am committed to providing all necessary resources to ensure our healthcare system and its frontline workers have what they need to beat this pandemic. At the same time, we must expand our social safety net so that workers and families have paid sick days, paid leave, work sharing flexibility to avoid layoffs, and an expanded and fully refundable Child Tax Credit. These programs provide economic security that will last, rather than ad-hoc responses as Congress lurches from crisis to crisis. As House Democrats rise to meet this challenge, I support Speaker Pelosi's efforts to make sure Congress takes responsibility for workers and families."
