DeLauro Statement on New Report Showing that Trump Administration Continues to Offer Federal Contracts to Firms Offshoring Jobs

April 25, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC (April 25, 2017) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding a new report released by Good Jobs Nation and Public Citizen's Global Trade Watch, "Trump's First 100 Days: Federal Contracting with Corporate Offshorers Continues," which reveals that a majority of U.S. government contractors continue to ship jobs overseas. The report comes as President Trump is set to mark his first 100 days in office and has failed to deliver on his claim that he will crack down on firms that offshore American jobs.

"The new report from Good Jobs Nation and Public Citizen's Global Trade Watch reveals the ongoing failure of the Trump Administration to put in place policies that prioritize American workers over big corporations. Many Americans believed that President Trump would stop companies from shipping jobs overseas, but his Administration has continued to do the opposite. Despite his claims that he would work for the middle class, President Trump continues to spend taxpayer money on corporations, including those that offshore jobs, over the American worker.

"From not starting NAFTA renegotiations on day one, to not labeling China a currency manipulator, President Trump has failed to address our nation's trade issues. The Administration has even gone as far as to consider policies that would propose more of the same investment rules that promote offshoring and enable corporations to attack our laws. Just last week, President Trump signed an executive order that begins to reverse rules that stop companies from moving their headquarters overseas to avoid paying taxes. While his campaign rhetoric sounds good at face value, President Trump has done little to back it up. This is not what the American worker deserves."
