DeLauro Statement on Nomination of Julie Su as U.S. Secretary of Labor

March 1, 2023

Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released a statement after President Biden announced he is nominating Deputy Secretary Julie Su to be the Secretary of Labor.

“I want to congratulate Julie Su on her nomination to serve as Secretary of Labor – leading the Department of Labor on vital issues facing workers today. While I am grateful for the service and friendship of outgoing Secretary Marty Walsh, I am thrilled that the Department will remain in good hands with a true champion for workers leading its efforts. Julie has been a trusted, accomplished leader since becoming Deputy Secretary and I know that will continue as she takes the reins at the Department.

“Julie has a strong history as a champion for American workers. When she was leading the California Department of Labor, she was well-known for her innovative and strong enforcement against wage theft. I was also glad to meet with her last fall to discuss the Department of Labor’s work on the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). I trust that she will fight to ensure our trade agreements, especially USMCA, are being adequately implemented and enforced while safeguarding the livelihoods of American workers.

“As Ranking Member of the Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Subcommittee, I am looking forward to working with soon-to-be Labor Secretary Julie Su on the most critical issues facing American workers. Her passion and expertise will make her an excellent leader of the Department of Labor.”
