DeLauro Statement on the Nomination of Linda Schwartz to Be Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) issued thefollowing statement today on the nomination of Linda Schwartz to be AssistantSecretary of Veterans Affairs for Policy and Planning at the US Department ofVeterans Affairs.

"Linda is a dear friend and I can think of no one better forthe job than her. As a Vietnam veteran she knows firsthand the strugglesveterans go through. She herself was gravely wounded in 1983 and had to undergoyears of arduous recovery from a traumatic brain injury. And as the first womanto serve as Connecticut's veterans affairs commissioner, Linda helped blaze atrail for the women who will follow in her footsteps.

"Linda Schwartz is an inspiration to me. I have learned somuch from her. She has helped me to understand the personal toll that veteransand their families undergo when returning from war. And she has helped all ofus understand the unique needs of women veterans. I hope the Senate will actquickly to confirm Linda so that she can take the great work she has done forConnecticut's veterans nationwide."
