DeLauro Statement on the Passing of Secretary Madeleine Albright
NEW HAVEN, CT – House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement honoring the life and legacy of former United States Secretary of State Madeleine Albright:
"The world has lost a force for good, and I have lost a personal hero, an ally, and a friend. Growing up during World War II and fleeing both Hitler and the communists, Madeleine's remarkable childhood experiences not only informed her work during NATO's decision to intervene in Kosovo and the pursuit of peace in the Middle East but also solidified her lifelong fight for civil and women's rights here in America and throughout the world.
"An author, a businesswoman, and a distinguished public servant who made history by serving as the nation's first female Secretary of State, Madeleine is one of the most admired women of our era. She cared deeply for children and families at home and abroad and was a woman of deep principle and abiding conviction. She spoke often of what it took for a woman of her stature to succeed in a male-dominated world, in addition to balancing a career while raising three daughters. For her trailblazing contributions, I am forever grateful.
"My heart breaks over this loss. I keep her family, and all who admired Madeleine, in my prayers."
