DeLauro Statement on Potential Sikorsky/United Technologies Separation

March 12, 2015

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today on the news United Technologies Corp. (UTC) is considering selling or spinning off Sikorsky. DeLauro represents Stratford, CT, where Sikorsky is based. She spoke with Sikorsky President Mick Maurer earlier this afternoon.

“The uncertainty created by this announcement is most troubling for its impact on Sikorsky’s workforce. Connecticut and Sikorsky have a long, mutually beneficial relationship, dating back to 1929, with Connecticut supplying the lynchpin: the talented, dedicated men and women who make the best helicopters in the world.

“I understand that UTC is exploring options and no decisions have been made. But UTC CEO Greg Hayes has previously assured members of Connecticut’s congressional delegation that he is committed to keeping Sikorsky in Stratford. I expect him to honor that and will be communicating that directly to him. Among the main questions I will continue to press with both Mr. Hayes and Mick Maurer are: will Sikorsky stay in Stratford, will there be an impact on jobs and what will be the impact on retiree benefits.

“Whether it is Marine One, the Combat Rescue program, or ending no-bid contracts with a Russian state-owned arms dealer, I have fought for a steady supply of Sikorsky helicopters because they are the best made in the world and create good-paying jobs throughout the state. These jobs include everything from engineers to assembly line workers, at manufacturers both large and small, across the supply chain. I will continue to fight to make sure that all these jobs stay in Connecticut.”
