DeLauro Statement on President Biden’s Review of American Supply Chain, Critical Step Toward Protecting Working Families

February 24, 2021

WASHINGTON – House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement on President Biden's Executive Order to launch a comprehensive review of the U.S. supply chains and identify ways to protect against risks and vulnerabilities exposed by COVID-19:

"I applaud President Biden for taking this critical step to conduct a holistic, 100-day review of America's supply chain. These efforts are not only critical to COVID-19 recovery but will help the federal government create and implement policies that will protect our national and economic security.

"I have long been concerned with the United States' dependence on other nations for medicines and other necessary goods and supplies. The coronavirus illustrated what many have known for years: that in our time of greatest need, we are beholden to other nations for protective gear and life-saving drugs. We cannot be caught in this position again.

"Congress is prepared and willing to support the Biden Administration in addressing the vulnerabilities in our supply chain, and I look forward to reviewing the findings of this comprehensive review. We must be bold in our actions to protect working families and rebuild an economy centered around products made in our own backyard."
