DeLauro Statement on the President’s 2016 Trade Agenda

March 2, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC (March 2, 2016) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the President's 2016 Trade Agenda, which was released this morning. The document makes the Trans-Pacific Partnership the centerpiece of the agenda.

"The Trans-Pacific Partnership does not reflect American interests or American values and that is why there is bipartisan opposition to it. The agreement fails to address currency manipulation by our trading partners, was negotiated in secret with undemocratic countries, and will accelerate the loss of jobs and depression of wages in the United States.

"The U.S. already suffers from a $177 billion trade deficit with our free trade partners. Trade deficits and cheap imports directly contribute to job loss for working families. We must level the playing field for working families by writing trade agreements that create jobs and increase wages in the U.S. The Trans-Pacific Partnership is flawed and must be redone."
