DeLauro Statement on President’s Plan for Rebuilding the Middle Class
Creating Jobs and Supporting Working Families Must BeTop Priorities
WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) releasedthe following statement today in reaction to the President's speech on creatingjobs and rebuilding the middle class. DeLauro is the authorof legislation that would establish a National Infrastructure Bank, apublic-private partnership that would create jobs and bolster the economy.
"I applaud the President for his focus on what should be ourtop priority: creating jobs and rebuilding the middle class. If doneright, revamping the corporate tax code--including closing loopholes--toencourage job creation at home rather than overseas and to better support smallbusiness can strengthen the economy.
"However, I do not support policies that would rewardcorporations that have avoided taxes by allowing them to bring overseas profitshome at a low tax rate. Congress can reform the tax code in ways that allowAmerica to make the investments we need to grow an economy that works foreveryone over the long-term. Establishing a National Infrastructure Bank, investments in education and job training, support for innovative manufacturingand raising the minimum wage, along with replacing the sequester, are allcritical steps we should take to create jobs, strengthen the middle class, support working families and better compete in a globalized economy."
