DeLauro Statement on Preventive Health Services Final Rule

WASHINGTON, DC--Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) releasedthe following statement on the final rule issuedtoday regarding preventive health services, including coverage of women'spreventive health services. DeLauro is senior Democrat on the subcommitteeresponsible for funding the Department of Health and Human Services.

"Women have to be able to make their own health caredecisions, in private discussions with their doctors and families--includingchoices about family planning such as contraception--without interference fromtheir boss. And I am encouraged that this rule, while exempting religiousemployers, enables women to do just that. As the rule is implemented, itis critical that women have access to this insurance coverage withoutadditional barriers to care and services."

The Affordable Care Act requires that healthinsurance plans cover recommended preventive services with no out of pocketcharges for patients. The final rule announced today clarifies thecoverage of recommended preventive care services for women. Today also marksthe one year anniversary of the Supreme Court voting to uphold the landmarklaw.
